Description
In the hamlet of Bioley stands the Chapel of San Nicola, whose origins date back to the 15th century, although the current building was constructed in 1621 at the behest of Jean-Pierre Lyonettaz and the Stefanyn brothers. It houses two 18th-century wooden statues, of Saint Nicholas and Saint Rocco, restored in 1867 by Giovanni Guala. The name “Bioley” is also linked to a noble family from Issime, the Biolley family, and derives from the local patois word “bioula,” meaning birch.
