Testa di Valfredda
( 2.440 m)Brief description
A truly long and varied hike.
The first section follows the road, the middle section passes through the charming Walser buildings and sparse woodland, and the final part traverses open slopes. This route is rarely frequented, so it is likely you will need to break trail throughout.
If you do not have an excellent knowledge of winter mountain conditions, it is strongly recommended to be accompanied by a mountain guide. The route may vary depending on snow conditions; therefore, the GPS track is not available for download from the website and is not visible on the app.

Start point description
From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right towards Torino. At the second roundabout, turn left towards Gressoney.
Drive for a few hundred metres, then take the right-hand turn onto the Valle del Lys road, passing through the villages of Lillianes and Fontainemore. Continue until reaching the downtown of Issime. Here, cross through the village and take the road on the left that ascends towards San Grato.
Follow this road up to the Grotta Chapel, where the road is no longer cleared of snow. At the end of the road, there is a car park.
Trail description
From the car park, follow the road for approximately 3 km until you enter the valley, where a mule track begins on the right. Continue for a few dozen metres, then make a steep traverse to the right to regain the track after the steepest section.
Follow the ridge until you reach the San Grato Chapel. From this point, bear sharply left to reach the first houses, passing them on the right, then climb more steeply to Méttelti, and subsequently turn left towards Ivanh.
From here, ascend the steep wooded ridge until the forest ends. Cross to the right, then climb left through a small valley that leads to a col. From the col, follow the wide ridge all the way to the summit.
If snow conditions are very secure, it is also possible to continue ascending the ridge directly from the end of the forest to reach the summit.
