Saroun
( 1.591 m)Brief description
This hike follows very steep and occasionally exposed trails, and should only be attempted without snow and on dry terrain.
It is striking that after climbing such rugged slopes, you suddenly reach a relatively flat area with beautiful pastures.
In the first part, the trail passes through the abandoned village of Ronginé. Before reaching the houses of Saroun, you pass near a rare two-level barma.
The Saroun grenier (granary), consisting of two connected structures, is unusually large for its location. Unfortunately, it is in poor condition, so it is not advisable to get too close.

Start point description
From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right towards Turin.
At the second roundabout, turn left in the direction of Gressoney.
The road climbs for a few hundred meters before turning right onto the Lys Valley road, which you follow all the way to Fontainemore.
Pass through the town center and continue for less than three kilometres, then, on the left, follow the signs for Borney. Continue along this road until reaching the hamlet.
At the beginning of the hamlet, take the road that climbs to the right and continues in switchbacks. After the last bend, on the right, you’ll see the signpost for Saroun, with a few clearings where you can park your car.
Trail description
From the road, take the mule track that climbs the steep, terraced slope between stone walls, leading to the abandoned village of Ronginé.
After admiring the charming details of the buildings, continue past the beautiful stone fountain to cross a slightly exposed section above the steep rocky valley.
Once at the valley floor, cross to the right, then climb the sunny slope on stone steps. Continue among steep terraces until reaching the distinctive two-level barma. After another steep section, emerge at the beginning of the pastures, from where the village of Saroun comes into view.
On the right side, notice the two grenier—one large and one small. If you pass them and look out over the steep rocky gully, you can appreciate the slope of the terrain.
The return follows the same route back.
