Brief description
A challenging itinerary, but shorter and less demanding than the route to Testa Grigia.
The trail remains steep throughout, with one section equipped with a metal cable.
Upon reaching the final basin, the landscape takes on a lunar appearance.
From the summit, enjoy spectacular views of the Monte Rosa range.

Start point description
From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right towards Turin. At the second roundabout, turn left following signs for Gressoney.
The road climbs for several hundred meters before turning right into the Lys Valley road, passing through the villages of Lillianes, Fontainemore, Issime, Gaby, and Gressoney-Saint-Jean, until reaching the main village of Gressoney-La-Trinité.
At the roundabout, continue straight into the village. After a few hundred meters, a large car park is located on the left.
Trail description
From the car park, follow the pedestrian path heading toward Monte Rosa for a few hundred meters, then take the left-hand trail that climbs steeply through the larch forest, gaining elevation quickly.
Several crossroads are encountered, but follow the main track until exiting the forest.
The trail then veers to the right to a junction. The left-hand path leads to Testa Grigia. Continue along the relatively flat route toward Alpe Hòggene Stei.
Upon reaching the alpine pasture, the trail climbs across a wide ledge, crosses a couple of small streams, then ascends to the left and passes a rocky section with the aid of a metal cable.
This leads to the large final basin, completely bare of vegetation, which is crossed by following cairns until reaching the summit of Piccolo Rothorn.
The descent follows the same route.
