Brief description
A beautiful route that allows you to explore the lower parts of two lovely valleys in Issime.
The ascent follows the San Grato valley, while the descent goes through the Burrini valley.
On the ascent, you can see the largest stone cairn in the Aosta Valley, and on the descent, the largest stone cross (visible from the trail but reachable with about a twenty-minute additional climb).
With two cars, it is possible to start higher up (elevation 1,230 m), saving about an hour of climbing.
Upon returning to the car, a visit to the church of Issime is not to be missed.

Start point description
From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right towards Turin. At the second roundabout, turn left towards Gressoney.
The road climbs a few hundred meters before turning right onto the Lys Valley road, passing through the villages of Lillianes and Fontainemore.
Continue into the territory of Issime until reaching the village, where the church and car park can be seen on the right.
Trail description
From the car park, cross the square towards the town hall, then cross the road and take the narrow street between the houses.
Turn left and ascend along the hillside (the view of the church from above is beautiful).
Pass by a small chapel and continue along the lovely mule track, which crosses the paved road a few times, until reaching the Grotta Chapel.
Return to the road and cross it to take the beautiful mule track on the left, which, crossing and sometimes following the road, reaches an elevation of 1230 meters, where the road is left behind.
A lovely mule track now begins, leading to the characteristic Walser buildings of Tschuckjini and Benecoadi. Shortly after, with a small detour to the left, you reach the Santa Margherita Chapel.
Back on the trail, climb a section with tight switchbacks, then traverse to the left until reaching a steep trail that climbs briefly before shifting left to reach the large Zeun building.
Continue along the hillside to the Blackgoavu hut, protected by a large stone avalanche barrier, and then reach the Mattu huts.
Turn sharply right and climb among the larches, then cross again to the right to arrive in the basin where the Galm huts are located.
The trail continues with a gentle ascent until reaching the large stone cairn. From this point, descend along faint traces to reach the lower trail (it is also possible to reach this point via a flat route from the Galm huts, seeing the cairn only from a distance).
Cross the basin, then overcome the ridge, and with a long traverse along a gentle descent, first reach the Bassinh huts and then the Muhnu huts.
From here, the large cross above is clearly visible, reachable in about 20 minutes.
Cross a stretch, then descend a gully with several switchbacks leading to the Stuale alpine plateau.
The trail now traverses high before descending steeply to reach a small bridge crossing the main stream, which leads to the Ronh huts.
Descend into the narrow valley, then exit to the right near a small votive shrine overlooking the Issime plain.
Descend diagonally along the beautiful mule track until reaching the paved road.
Cross the regional road and continue straight; just before the bridge, take the road to the right that crosses the village (note the beautiful windows on the buildings) and return to the car park.
