Start point description
From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right towards Turin. At the second roundabout, turn left towards Gressoney.
The road climbs a few hundred meters before turning right onto the Lys Valley road, passing through the villages of Lillianes, Fontainemore, Issime, and Gaby.
Continue until reaching Gressoney-Saint-Jean; just before crossing the bridge over the Lys stream, on the left, there is a square with several parking lots.
Trail description
From the car park, cross the stream and then turn sharply left. After less than a hundred meters, turn right onto Via Deffeyes.
Continue on level ground along Via Eyematten until reaching the junction with the road coming from Valdobbia. After a few dozen meters, continue along the road leading to Castel Savoia.
Climb the first small ascent to reach the castle car park, then continue on a still-level section until reaching the ski area, where the main climb begins.
The road ascends the forested slope with hairpin bends.
Pass the junction to Hotel Cialvina and continue to the end of the asphalt, from where you can admire the stunning panorama of Monte Rosa.
On the descent, after passing the Castel Savoia car park and reaching the flat zone, it is not possible to return via the same route (one-way traffic).
Continue to the right towards Valdobbia until the bridge over the Lys stream.
Without crossing it, turn left and, still following the Lys, reach the car park.
