Wine Press of Plan de Brun

Culture - Signs of the past
Perloz

Description

Step into this room and discover a remarkable piece of winemaking history: a central screw wine press resting on a massive, expertly chiselled square stone, each side measuring around 2.5 meters. Originally positioned differently, it was later moved—likely when the shrinking vineyards meant it was no longer in use. Today, with its wine outlet facing the rock wall, the press can no longer function.
During restoration, a post with a rectangular groove was uncovered—designed to hold removable crossbars that acted as pivots during pressing—revealing that a large horizontal-lever press once stood here. Its impressive size, 255 cm tall and 40 cm wide, suggests it was similar to the monumental press in the nearby village of Perloz, which visitors can still admire today. This remarkable artifact offers a tangible glimpse into the traditional wine production that shaped local life for centuries
