Roman Road

Description

The Roman Road of the Gauls, built to link Rome with the Rhône Valley, reaches one of its most distinctive and spectacular stretches at Donnas, where it is carved directly into the solid rock for a length of 221 meters. Along the Via delle Gallie, visitors can admire a striking arched passageway measuring 4 meters in thickness, 4 meters in height, and nearly 3 meters in width. Clearly visible too is the profile of a milestone, preserved in the rocky wall itself, indicating the distance from Augusta Praetoria (Aosta): XXXVI miles (around 54 km).
