Description
The Peonia Officinalis station is a wonderful flowering corner of the Aosta Valley, located on the Col Fenêtre Pass, stretching between the municipalities of Arnad and Perloz along the slopes dividing Mont Fenêtre and Croux Corma.
It offers a perfect opportunity to wander through meadows, scree slopes, larch woods, and scattered beech forests, but most of all to encounter the beautiful Paeonia officinalis, a species of Euro-Siberian origin, rare in Italy’s Alps and Apennines, and strictly protected by regional law as an indigenous wild plant. Its spectacular bloom in early June features large crimson-red flowers with five petals and striking yellow anthers.
