Description
The church of Fontainemore was built in 1494 by master builder Antonio Goyet, as commemorated by a Gothic inscription on an architrave.
There are several significant features that deserve a visit, not only for art history enthusiasts: the presbytery with its 15th-century rounded apse; the sail-shaped vault with stone ribs coated in lime, featuring a central rose window bearing the Vallaise family crest; and five altars in Baroque and Rococo style.
The base of the bell tower dates to the same period as the church, but the tower itself was raised twice at later dates. The portal is crafted in stone in Renaissance style, with the inscription on the architrave reading: ‘réédifiée IHS 1679.’ The main wooden door is carved into four panels depicting Saint Gratus, Saint Giocondo, Saint Anthony, and Saint Ursus, along with six panels decorated with leaves and flowers.
