Description
Rising on the site of a 15th-century chapel, the Parish Church of San Rocco was completed in 1723, blending history and artistry in every detail. Its spacious interior, with three naves framed by elegant stone pillars, houses a magnificent Baroque main altar sculpted between 1763 and 1770 by J.B. Gilardi and his son Giuseppe—a true masterpiece.
Four gilded side altars add to the church’s splendor: on the left, the ‘Souls in Purgatory’ and ‘Our Lady of Mercy’ or ‘of the Seven Sorrows,’ and on the right, ‘Saint Joseph and Saint Erasmus’ and ‘Our Lady of the Rosary.’ Visitors can admire statues of Saint Joseph, Saint Anthony, and the Virgin Mary, while a bust near the altar honors Giovanni Battista Jans, Bishop of Aosta and native of Lillianes.
The stone portal features a distinctive inverted teardrop Gothic motif, and the adjacent cemetery adds a sense of serene continuity. Rising 11 meters, the bell tower is crowned with an octagonal spire and four delicate pinnacles, completing this remarkable ensemble of faith, art, and history.
