Marelli Palace

Culture - Castles and Towers
Hône

Description

This residence, built in 1689 near the parish church of San Giorgio, was commissioned by Count Jean-Pierre Marelli, General Superintendent of Arms and Ammunition for the House of Savoy, who had received the territory of Hône as a fief a few years earlier.
The building was designed horizontally and featured internal gardens and vegetable plots. However, from its earliest days, what had been conceived as a noble palace was used as a farmhouse, and by the early 18th century it had already fallen into significant disrepair.
In the mid-19th century, Giovanni Antonio Colliard, long-serving mayor of Hône, purchased the palace and remained its owner until the middle of the following century.
