Description
At the entrance to the village, protecting the traditional stone houses, stands the Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin. Its bright white façade is adorned with delicate painted figures. Above the entrance, a panel depicts the Madonna with Child alongside Saints Rocco and Nicola (to the left) and Saints Grato and Antonio (to the right), painted by the Canavese artist Antonio Sogno in the last quarter of the 19th century.
The chapel itself, however, dates back to the previous century. Construction was completed in the early months of 1728, and it was blessed on May 20 of that year. Its early life was short-lived: within about twenty years, the building fell into disrepair due to the unstable ground on which it stood. The villagers decided to rebuild it nearby on a safer plot. With episcopal authorization, they reused the stones from the old chapel to speed up the construction of the new one.
The new chapel was blessed by Parish Priest Barthélemy Dalbard on June 12, 1756, when the first Mass was celebrated.
