Zube Pass

( 2.877 m)
Ski mountaineering
Start from Gressoney-La-Trinité
January - February - March - April - December

Brief description

This hike can be done either during the ski lift operating season—starting from Gabiet (note: when the lifts are open, it is not permitted to ascend along the ski slopes)—or, when the lifts are closed, directly from Staffal.
The route described here begins at Gabiet. Naturally, on the return you descend following the ski slopes all the way down to Staffal.
In the first section, you follow the dedicated route created by Monterosa Ski specifically for ski mountaineers.
Since the second part of the itinerary is not marked, the GPS track cannot be downloaded from the website, nor is it available on the official app.

Start point description

From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right towards Turin. At the second roundabout, turn left following the signs for Gressoney.
The road climbs for a few hundred meters before branching right into the Lys Valley. Continue along this scenic road, passing through the villages of Lillianes, Fontainemore, Issime, Gaby, and Gressoney-Saint-Jean, until you reach the main village of Gressoney-La-Trinité.
Without entering the village, turn right towards Staffal and follow the road to its very end, where you will find two large paid car parks.

Trail description

From the arrival station of the lift, go down to the ground floor and you will immediately find the start of the trail on your left.
The path climbs to the left, then crosses to the right to reach the Adler's Nest restaurant.
From here, continue along the right side of the ski slope, passing—always on the right—the Ponte Hotel until you reach a flat area.
At this point, the usual route leading to the Salati Pass crosses the slope to the other side. Instead, continue on the same side of the ski slope, outside of it, until you see to your right the valley that leads up to the Zube Pass.
Go up the steep little valley on your left until you emerge into the upper basin. From here, keeping to the center, you will easily reach the Zube Pass.
