Vineyard

Hiking
Start from Pont-Saint-Martin
January - February - March - April - May - June - July - August - September - October - November - December

Brief description

This is a very easy route, with many sections along paved roads.
The upper stretch crosses the entire mountainside, which is completely covered with vineyards. Here you can admire not only the panoramic views over the valley floor, but also the extraordinary work of past generations, who reclaimed these steep slopes by building great stone walls to make vine cultivation possible.
It is a pleasant walk, particularly in the colder months, when you can enjoy the warmth of the sun. Especially beautiful in October, when the vineyards transform into a marvellous palette of colours.

Start point description

From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn left towards Aosta. At the roundabout, take the right-hand exit, following the signs for the town centre.
Once you reach Piazza 1° Maggio, turn left towards Perloz, where the ascent begins. On your right-hand side you will find the multi-storey car park.

Trail description

From the car park, head towards the square and, just beyond it, take the wide mule track on the left. This path climbs gently past the beautiful Church of Fontaney and the old cemetery, with the striking Baraing Castle clearly visible on your right.
Cross the road and continue along the mule track, which passes beneath the main regional road before leading you up to the vineyard road. Turn left here and follow the level path through the hamlet of Ronc, until you reach the heart of the vineyards.
The mountainside is extremely steep, and it is quite remarkable to see how countless terraces have been built here to make vine cultivation possible. The road passes a large iron cross and then begins to descend—follow it all the way down.
At the bottom, turn left into the hamlet of Ronc de Vaca. Continue along the inner road until you reach the main highway. Walk along the pavement until you arrive at the roundabout. Cross straight over and follow the road leading into the village. You will soon arrive back at the square, with the car park conveniently located to the left.
