Tour of the villages

Hiking
Start from Perloz
March - April - May - June - July - August - September - October

Brief description

This route not only takes you through the charming village of Perloz but also offers views of several surrounding villages and numerous picturesque corners.
The second part of the ascent is quite steep and should be tackled slowly and carefully. Along the way, the trail provides a fascinating glimpse of how humans have carved cultivable terraces into the steep slopes.
The final section of the stone-paved trail leading to Breil was ingeniously designed to navigate a vertical rock face. On the descent, you can also view from the outside a reconstruction of the old village school.
The entire route is well marked with a dedicated trail sign, making navigation straightforward.

Start point description

From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn left toward Aosta. Continue straight until the roundabout, then turn right toward the town center.
Upon reaching Piazza 4 Novembre, turn left in the direction of Perloz. Continue toward the main village; just before the center, turn left toward the Notre-Dame-de-La-Garde Sanctuary. After about 100 meters, you will find some parking lots along the road.

Trail description

From the car, descend along the paved road and then take the road on the left leading to the town hall. Pass it, and looking up to the left, admire the grand façade of Vallaise Castle. Just below the road, the church is also worth a careful look.
Returning to the road, turn left and walk a few meters, then take the right-hand path toward the Resistance Museum. A few meters on, turn left onto the mule track, which climbs up to meet the paved road.
Once on the road, descend briefly, then take the right-hand mule track that rises toward Collerè (or Collerey). Follow it, alternating with short sections along the paved road, until reaching the village. Continue along the road to a hairpin bend, cross the small bridge, and climb the steep mule track leading to the houses of Chisalle.
Pass beneath the houses and continue on a level path, crossing exposed slopes protected by railings, then descend to cross a ravine. The trail now climbs steeply but remains wide, reaching the paved road just before Breil. Follow the road until you can ascend through the village. Back on the road, continue, then descend to the houses of Latélé, where a large vine and a beautiful stone fountain dated 1888 can be seen on the right.
Descend along the mule track to reach the paved road, follow it downhill, pass a hairpin, and shortly after, take the mule track leading to Marine, part of the Cammino Balteo. Enter the village, passing a “gra” (chestnut-drying building). Here, leave the Cammino Balteo and descend left to reach the old school (interior visible through the glass door), then shortly after, the paved road.
Follow the road to the right to rejoin the Cammino Balteo. Descend the mule track, reach the paved road again, and continue left. Just ahead, on a wall, three stones with German inscriptions from World War II can be seen, marking the way to the Aurora Bell.
Return along the mule track, which quickly brings you under the houses of Chamioux. At this point, follow the paved road to the right to reach Perloz. Shortly after the valley, leave the road and climb a small street leading into the village. Here, visit the Resistance Museum, then follow the morning route to turn right into the village itself, exploring its details at a relaxed pace, especially the large wine press.
Continue to Charles Castle and exit the village; turning back, you can admire its grand façade with beautiful windows. Pass by the chapel of San Rocco and continue to the first fork, proceed straight, then join the road from the Notre-Dame-de-La-Garde Sanctuary, turn left, and after 100 meters, reach the car.
