Sassaz

This itinerary begins in the municipality of Fontainemore but mainly takes place in Lillianes.
The route alternates between larch forests and beautiful clearings, with mixed uphill and downhill sections, eventually reaching the Étoile du Berger refreshment stop (check opening times in advance).
Much of the route follows the cross-country or ski mountaineering trail, so walkers should take care to stay along the edges to avoid damaging it.

From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right towards Turin.
At the second roundabout, turn left in the direction of Gressoney.
The road climbs for a few hundred meters before turning right onto the Lys Valley road, which you follow all the way to Fontainemore.
Pass through the town center and continue for less than two kilometres, then, on the right, follow the signs for Coumarial. Continue along this road until reaching the large car park at the end of the road.

From the end of the Coumarial car park, follow the road upward. At the first junction, turn right and stay along the edge of the cross-country skiing trail. Ignore the first right-hand turn and continue climbing until, again on the right, a descending road begins.
Follow it until you reach the cross-country trail further ahead and continue along it until its end. This marks the beginning of the ski mountaineering route. Cross the next two bridges, then descend slightly before starting a long climb that leads to the road coming from Lillianes.
At the junction, descend along the road to the first hairpin (just below the Borney houses) and turn left to follow the Cammino Balteo route.
Continue along the gentle downhill traverse until reaching the Sassaz houses and the main road. A few dozen meters below the road is the Étoile du Berger refreshment stop.
