Salati pass

Cycling
Start from Gressoney-La-Trinité
July - August

Brief description

This route can be done by MTB or e-bike.
A fairly long climb along a white gravel road, with some uneven sections, leads to Passo dei Salati, overlooking Alagna Valsesia in Piedmont.
In the second part of the route, Monte Rosa remains in view, softening a bit the challenge of the climb.
On the return, it is possible to make a short detour to the Gabiet Lake or stop for a meal at one of the nearby points.
The ascent follows the service track of the ski lifts.

Start point description

From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right towards Turin. At the second roundabout, turn left towards Gressoney.
The road climbs a few hundred meters before turning right onto the Lys Valley road, passing through the villages of Lillianes, Fontainemore, Issime, Gaby, and Gressoney-Saint-Jean until reaching the center of Gressoney-La-Trinité.
Without entering the village, turn right towards Staffal and follow the road to its end, where there are two large paid car parks.

Trail description

From the car park, descend towards Gressoney-La-Trinité for about 500 meters, then turn left onto the road to Bédemie, which is closed to traffic.
Before reaching Bédemie, turn left and begin the climb, which becomes steep immediately.
Continue, still on a steep path, until entering the Gabiet basin, where a short flat section leads to the cable car arrival station.
The climb resumes, passing the Albergo del Ponte, and reaches the upper basin.
After a brief flat section, the steep ascent begins again, leading all the way to Passo dei Salati.
