Pramotton Tower and Pianas
( 1.037 m)Brief description
The Pramotton tower, clearly visible from the valley floor, was the first control point when entering the Aosta Valley.
Nearby, also for territorial control, there is a spot where a partisan post was located during the Second World War; a large rock with an inscription remains.
The trail is very steep and mostly runs through the forest. Some sections of the path are not very visible and should only be attempted by experienced hikers.

Start point description
From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn left towards Aosta. At the roundabout, keep left, continuing in the direction of Aosta.
Continue almost to the end of the long straight road, passing two traffic lights, then take the road on the left that descends towards Vert. Pass under the railway and cross the Dora Baltea river to reach a small roundabout, where you turn left.
Continue, and at the fork turn left to reach the Vert hamlet. Pass through it until the end of the road at the beginning of the Pramotton hamlet, where you can park on the left.
Trail description
From the car park, take the country road heading towards the Dora Baltea river. Follow it along the riverbank before ascending along a beautiful trail through chestnut trees (waymark no. 1).
After an initial steeper section, traverse left to go around Pramotton Tower, which can be reached via a short detour. Returning to the main trail, continue for less than 100 metres; a left-hand detour leads to a rock with carvings from the partisan war period.
Back on the main trail, continue along the steep path until you reach a small, flat hollow. Move left for a few dozen metres to reach a small pond (which may be completely dry at certain times of the year).
Returning to the main trail, continue along a slightly less steep section until you reach the Pianas chapel, with lovely views over the lower Lys Valley.
Continue through the forest to the Pian Fey houses, where the ascent ends. Follow the country road to the right until the hairpin bend at Baraton, then take a small forest trail that descends to a country road leading to Prapousaz.
Descend to the houses, then take the (less visible) trail descending steeply (waymarks 2 and 3). Continue through the steep forest until reaching the Pailleron houses. Before entering the forest, pay attention not to take a left-hand trail at a certain point — continue straight.
The trail passes to the left of the houses, descending through the steep forest until crossing the stream via a small bridge. Ascend slightly on the opposite slope, then descend to a country road.
Follow this road to the left for a few hundred metres, then take the right-hand trail, which climbs steeply to the Pramotton houses (one of the houses shows the historical flood water levels from past events) and finally returns to the car park.
