Pian Bosonin and Alpe Cormoney
( 1.535 m)Brief description
The ascent offers little opportunity for rest, as it is particularly steep.
Along the way, you will notice several beautiful barme—natural rock shelters created beneath large boulders.
The real highlight of this hike, however, is the mule track built directly onto a massive rock slab, smoothed over centuries by glacial erosion.
Upon reaching the Cormonè alpine pasture, the view opens wide over the beautiful Moillaz valley.

Start point description
From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn left in the direction of Aosta.
At the roundabout, keep left, continuing towards Aosta.
Follow the long straight road almost to its end, passing through two traffic lights, until you find on your left the road descending towards Vert.
Cross under the railway, then over the Dora Baltea River, and continue to a small roundabout where you proceed straight ahead.
Continue along the road until you reach the bridge over the Fer stream. Just after crossing, turn right to bypass the hamlet; at the end, on the left, you will find a large car park.
Trail description
From the car park, follow the farm track leading toward the forest (on the right you’ll notice two beautiful barme, or natural rock shelters, beneath huge boulders that fell from the mountain).
A long stone staircase now marks the beginning of the steep ascent, running alongside rock walls that are often used by climbers.
The path then shifts entirely to the left (just before the end you’ll spot another barma above the trail) before climbing up the steep rocky ridge, offering splendid views of the Bard Fortress.
You will soon reach a wide rock slab, where the old mule track zigzags upwards in broad switchbacks, until arriving at the clearing of Plan Dessous.
From here, a wider lane leads you to Plan Dessus. On the left stands a large stainless-steel cross, from which you can enjoy sweeping views over the plain of Donnas and Pont-Saint-Martin. Nearby, you’ll find several impressive chestnut trees and, behind the houses, a typical barma.
Continue walking past the last building, leaving on your right the trail that leads to Pourcil. The route then climbs steeply above a large rock step until reaching a ridge overlooking the Moillaz valley.
Follow the ridge line to reach a spacious clearing, where at its far end lie the houses of Cormonè.
The return follows the same route back.
