Peredrette
( 630 m)Brief description
This loop trail, which includes some very steep sections, allows you to visit a highly interesting area. Highlights include the large “giants’ kettle”, the fort under a massive overhanging rock face, and the Peredrette settlement.
Beyond the settlement, there are some rocky sections equipped with iron steps and a fixed rope. These must be tackled with great care and are not suitable for children.
The route is generally passable even in winter, except immediately after heavy snowfall.
On the return, with a small detour near the end of the village, you will find the new premises of the Lou Tzeut cooperative, which works with hemp fabric from Champorcher. Visitors can see the looms in operation, try weaving on tabletop looms, and purchase items from the shop.

Start point description
From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn left towards Aosta. At the roundabout, turn left again, continuing in the direction of Aosta.
Continue until you reach Donnas. Pass through the village and, at the small roundabout at the exit of the town — where the Roman road can be admired on the right — turn left and descend into the large car park.
Trail description
From the car park, pass under the main road and follow the Roman road, taking time to admire the impressive engineering work. After passing through the arch, a very steep staircase rises to the left; climb it until you reach the base of the rock climbing area.
The trail continues steeply among the rocks until a small hollow with trees, where it turns sharply to the left. Proceed straight for about twenty metres to find, on the left, the large “giants’ kettle”.
Returning to the trail, continue through large rock formations until you reach Barma Cotze, a large rock shelter where a prehistoric burial site has been identified.
Continue a short distance to another shelter where a military fortification was built; in addition to the main structure, a fountain and oven are still visible. Move to the right, then climb a short section to enter a small valley with a few buildings — one entirely built beneath a massive rock, with a fountain nearby in a cave.
Cross the valley briefly, then turn left to ascend towards the Peredrette settlement. After visiting, return to the valley and climb the opposite slope. Iron steps assist on the steeper sections until you reach a large equipped rock slab.
Climb this carefully to reach the upper slopes. Continue among the rocky outcrops to the final rocky ridge, then cross a level section to arrive at a viewpoint marked by large stone cairns.
Descend now to a small plateau among the rocks with a small building. Cross to the left and continue down steeper sections until nearly reaching the asphalt road.
On the right, follow the Cammino Balteo trail, which ascends a steep rocky slope (with a short section aided by iron steps) to reach the small car park at the Prele houses.
Follow the road to a large boulder, then continue straight, descending before turning right to enter the village. Cross through the village until you find the Roman road again.
