Brief description

The route follows the Monte Rosa WalserWaeg trail, which takes place in summer.

Start point description

From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right toward Torino. At the second roundabout, turn left toward Gressoney.
After a few hundred meters, take the road to the right that follows the Lys Valley, passing through the vilages of Lillianes, Fontainemore, Issime, and Gaby.
Continue until you reach Gressoney-Saint-Jean. Just before crossing the bridge over the Lys stream, on the left, you will find a car park with several spaces.

Trail description

From the car park, cross the bridge and reach Lake Gover (the official start of the trail) or, if you prefer, follow the Lys River up to the car park without going to the lake.
Cross the stream and continue along it to the power station. Cross the Lys River, pass between the houses, and follow the regional road to the right until you reach the trail leading to Alpenzù Grande.
The slope is very steep, but the trail climbs it with wide switchbacks, passing some monumental larches. A right-hand traverse brings you to the stunning village of Alpenzù Grande, with its chapel standing against the sky.
From here, follow the Walser trail, which winds with ups and downs through the forest, reaching Alpenzù Piccolo and, with the final descent, the roundabout just before Gressoney-La-Trinité.
Enter the town and continue until you reach the bridge on the right crossing the stream. Cross the regional road and reverse direction, passing near the tennis courts and the hydroelectric plant.
Continue on the left to join the well-marked trail leading toward Gressoney-Saint-Jean. Pass the houses of Lisebalmò and continue through several villages, admiring the traditional Walser architecture, until you reach Rong.
Descend sharply to the right and follow the regional road for about 500 meters to the houses of Chemonal. Take the trail on the right, which rises slightly and then continues flat through the forest, passing above the golf course. Cross a small bridge, pass to the right of the village, and reach Lake Gover, where the route ends.
