Lake Chiaro

( 2.091 m)
Hiking
Start from Issime
July - August - September

Brief description

A little-known but very interesting valley.
The first part of the ascent crosses a somewhat exposed section before reaching the village of Biouley and its small church (this initial section can also be climbed via the descent route if preferred).
The slope is very steep, but along the way, several grassy terraces can be found, each with its own hut.
Entering the valley, you can admire some beautiful rascard buildings.
At Kredemi, a huge pile of stones protects the hut from avalanches.
The small Lago Chiaro at the end of the hike will amaze with the transparency of its waters.

Start point description

From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right towards Turin. At the second roundabout, turn left towards Gressoney.
The road climbs a few hundred meters before turning right into the Lys Valley road, passing through the villages of Lillianes and Fontainemore.
Continue into the territory of Issime, follow a long straight stretch, and just after the curve, turn right to cross the Lys stream.
After crossing the bridge, turn right again, and after less than 100 meters, take the junction to Zéngji, where a small clearing on the right offers a place to park the car.

Trail description

From the car, follow the paved road that leads to the hamlet up to the car park, where on the left a staircase begins, taking you near the monumental beech.
The trail climbs steeply, then traverses to the right along a ledge that crosses a somewhat exposed rock band (in some sections a safety rope is provided).
At the end, continue climbing steeply among the terraces, reaching the village of Biouley.
From the small church, follow the beautiful mule track that climbs to the left, passing through forested stretches and small grassy terraces with charming huts, before entering the flatter part of the valley at the Turriti and Turrudschu huts.
Continue through the valley to reach the Kredemi hut, protected by a large pile of stones against avalanches, with a cross placed above for additional protection.
Follow the left side of the valley to reach the Mianda hut, and with a final push, the Leikier hut and nearby lake.
For the return, follow the same route back to Biouley. From the church, continue along the flat path until exiting the village.
A beautiful mule track then leads to the paved road near Zéngji; follow it to the right to return to the car.
