Start point description
From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right towards Turin. At the second roundabout, turn left towards Gressoney.
The road climbs a few hundred meters before turning right onto the Lys Valley road, passing through the villages of Lillianes, Fontainemore, and Issime.
Reach the center of Gaby, where just before the bridge over the Niel stream, the road to Niel begins on the right.
Follow the stream, then cross it and climb the mountainside along wide hairpin bends up to Chanton.
The road narrows and continues until it ends at the beautiful village of Niel.
Trail description
From the car park, follow the beautiful paved mule track until you find, on the left just before the Gruba dormitory, the detour to the Mologna Grande and Lazouney passes.
Quickly ascend the stone steps to reach the upper basin.
The trail becomes less steep and continues along the paved mule track flanked by two large stone walls until reaching Alpe Stubin.
Continue through the larch forest to the two small bridges, crossing them to soon reach the houses of Schtovela.
Cross the basin to the right and begin climbing among the larches.
The trail climbs steeply to reach the Pitout Lazouney hut.
After a short section, you enter the small basin where the small Grekij lake can be seen on the left.
From here, only the final stretch remains, leading to the broad saddle of the pass.
Backtrack a few dozen meters, then follow the trail with some ups and downs until reaching Col Lazouney (a short detour to the right allows you to see the Suckie lake a few minutes before the pass).
From the pass, descend briefly into the wide basin, then follow the flat trail to the left.
The trail descends across wide pastures until reaching the Ober Lòo huts, where a farm restaurant is located.
Pass the chapel and descend to cross the stream.
The trail continues on the right-hand side of the valley across wide slopes to the large Bodma plateau, partially crossing between two large stone walls to reach the houses of Lòo, where the stream is crossed shortly afterward.
Change direction and terrain, entering the steep part of the valley among the first trees.
The beautiful mule track descends steeply, crosses the stream, and with a long traverse along the hillside reaches the village of Lommattò, then descends to Steina.
Follow the regional road for a short stretch, leaving it just before the bridge.
Continue along the stream until reaching the large Weissmatten square on the other side.
Ascend through the larch forest to reach the Castel Savoia car park, where the beautiful Regina trail begins, leading back to the center of Gressoney-Saint-Jean.
