Brief description

This is a highly varied route that allows visitors to explore Perloz while discovering numerous traces of the partisan struggle. The area was historically home to the Brigata Lys, the first partisan brigade in the lower Aosta Valley.
Along the trail, you’ll encounter many historical and cultural points of interest: the Resistance Museum, the Aurora bell, and numerous small marks left on the landscape.
Both the village of Perloz and the artistic village of Chemp deserve a thorough visit. Much of the route follows the Cammino Balteo, offering a scenic and historically rich experience.

Start point description

From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right toward Turin. At the second roundabout, turn left in the direction of Gressoney.
Drive for a few hundred meters, then take the road to the Valle del Lys on the right. Follow this road, pass through the tunnel, and after a few hundred meters, turn left onto the steep lane that leads up to the cemetery car park, where you can leave your car.

Trail description

From the car park, follow the descending trail for about ten minutes to reach the charming Moretta Bridge, spanning the narrow gorge of the Lys River. Just before the bridge on the left, you can see a curious circular erosion, said in legend to mark the spot of a dragon. At the center of the bridge, there is a small chapel with two paintings.
After admiring the beautiful pools of the Lys, begin the steep stepped trail ascending the rocky slope. The path crosses a slightly exposed section, but it is well protected, before climbing into the forest to reach the beautiful church of Perloz, with its painted façade.
Enter the village and follow it to the end, where the grand façade of Charles Castle is clearly visible. Retrace a few meters to take the path past Osteria Mansio 1695, then climb to reach the main road. Follow it right for about a hundred meters to a large brick building, where a path on the right leads back into the village.
Passing under an arch, turn left, passing by the Resistance Museum, and exit the village. Continue along the road to a left-hand trail leading to Marine. At the road junction, on the left there is a monument, and on the right, three stones embedded in a wall with German inscriptions. Following the road for about a hundred meters leads to the large Aurora Bell.
Return along the trail following the Cammino Balteo. Upon reaching the paved road, leave the Cammino Balteo and follow the road right to the small square with a chapel. In front, there is a monument listing the partisans of the Brigata Lys, and to the left, the old school. Nearby is the Bono Badery memorial, and through a large window, a reconstruction of the old village school is visible.
Rejoin the Cammino Balteo near a “gra”, a building formerly used to dry chestnuts. Continue along the paved road to the left-hand trail, then cross the road to reach the Marine irrigation canal, following a scenic half-mountain path. After a stretch carved into rock with protective railings, you arrive at the Glacières Mill.
After visiting the mill, return a few meters, descend a staircase, and reach the road. Cross the bridge, continue to the junction for Chemp, then follow the path to the village. This village is worth a detailed visit: over 80 artworks by various artists, including non-local, can be seen among the buildings.
At the end of the visit, near the small church, take the steep path leading to the Nantey hamlet. Continue along the road, cross the bridge, and climb back to the Valle del Lys regional road, then continue a short distance to reach the church near where the car was parked.
