Donnas – Chardonney

( 1.460 m)
Cycling
Start from Donnas
April - May - June - July - August - September

Brief description

The Champorcher Valley is a particularly steep valley with few flat sections; over the course of 15 km it climbs more than 1,000 meters in altitude.
From Donnas, the first kilometres are fairly flat, but from the end of the village of Hône the long climb begins. Fortunately, the final stretch from Champorcher to Chardonney levels out again.
Along the ascent you can enjoy several scenic viewpoints, while on the descent, with a short detour, you can visit the beautiful bridge over the Ayasse stream and the little-known hamlet of Pontboset.

Start point description

From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn left toward Aosta. At the roundabout, turn left again, still following the signs for Aosta.
Continue until you reach Donnas. Just after the railway station, on the right-hand side, you will find a large two-level car park.

Trail description

From the car park, continue toward Aosta, passing near the Roman road. After a short hill over the overpass, follow a long straight stretch before tackling the curves that lead to Bard. Pass through the village and, at the roundabout just beyond, turn left toward Champorcher. (Note: this first section follows the state road and can be busy with traffic.)
Cross the entire village of Hône, then begin the climb; at the very first hairpin turn you are already above the church. The ascent continues steadily, with alternating gradients but always steep.
Eventually you reach Château (the main village of Champorcher), and finally, after a gentler stretch, arrive at Chardonney, where the road ends.
