Start point description

From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right towards Turin. At the second roundabout, turn left in the direction of Gressoney.
After a few hundred metres, take the right-hand turn onto the Valle del Lys road, which you follow as far as Lillianes.
Just before the narrow section of the village, take the road on the right that climbs upwards. At the first junction, continue to the left. Ascend the steep mountainside until reaching another junction, then follow the signs for Étoile du Berger.
After passing several steep hairpin bends, arrive at the junction for the road leading to Pra Pian, where it is possible to leave the car.

Trail description

From the car, follow the road towards Étoile du Berger for a short distance, then ascend to the left behind the building, crossing a difficult wooded section to reach a clearing.
Climb the clearing keeping to the left, then veer right to reach the houses of Bourney. Continue along the beautiful slopes, ideal for skiing, until you reach the larch forest.
Ascend through the forest until you find the rural road again near the attractive building of Vraseré. Follow this road, which gently climbs, to Pra de Bosc.
Climb a stretch through the trees to reach the upper slopes, which can be ascended freely without a fixed route. At the end, veer right towards Plan Sourcères.
Cross a final small valley to reach Col Portola, from where the Coda refuge is clearly visible. Continue along the ridge to reach an altitude of 2016 m.
The route is indicative only; depending on snow conditions, choose the safest and most suitable line.
Descent is via the same route, selecting the best exposures for snow conditions.
