Brief description
A simple itinerary that follows the rural road for its entire length. The first part winds through a beautiful larch forest before emerging at the head of the Giassit valley.
Upon leaving the forest, the view opens up over the Lys Valley, with a striking panorama of the Monte Rosa range. Reaching the col, you overlook the Chiussuma valley and the Canavese plain.
The head of this beautiful basin, although geographically in Piedmont, still belongs to the Aosta Valley.

Start point description
From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right towards Torino. At the second roundabout, turn left towards Gressoney.
After a few hundred metres, take the road to the Valle del Lys on the right, which continues to Lillianes. Just before the narrow section of the village, turn right onto the uphill road. At the first junction, continue left.
Ascend the steep mountainside until reaching a junction, then follow the signs for Etoile du Berger. Pass several steep hairpin bends to reach another junction, where you continue towards Etoile du Berger, leaving it on the right. After about 1 km, you will reach a small car park where it is possible to leave your vehicle.
Trail description
From the car, follow the road up to the bridge, cross it, and continue along the opposite bank. Reach a hairpin turn, then completely reverse direction. The road, after a short descent, continues through a larch forest and enters the wide Stoba basin.
After passing the first huts, continue a little further and then turn left onto the uphill track. Ascend through the larch woods with broad switchbacks until reaching Alpe Truc, which is left to the right.
Now veer left and follow a long traverse into the head of the Giassit valley. Continuing along the road, ascend to the right towards a small col, and then follow the broad ridge to reach Col Liet.
The return follows the same route. At the last hairpin bend, just before reaching Stoba, it is possible to cut through the beautiful larch forest and reach the lower road directly.
