Col Giassit
( 2.026 m)Brief description
This excursion consists of two distinct sections: the first alternates wooded areas with sections that are less straightforward, while the second features wide, open slopes.
The lower part of the route, fully north-facing within the forest, often offers beautiful powder snow, provided there has been sufficient snowfall.
The final basin is very spacious with fine slopes, but the last section to reach the summit cross should only be attempted when the snow is stable, as it may release avalanches from either the right or left slopes.
If you do not have excellent winter mountain experience, it is advisable to go with a mountain guide.
Up-to-date snow conditions can sometimes be found at www.gulliver.it.

Start point description
From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right towards Turin. At the second roundabout, turn left towards Gressoney.
After a few hundred metres, take the road on the right into the Lys Valley, following it all the way to Lillianes.
Just before the narrow part of the village, take the road on the right that climbs uphill. At the first junction, continue left.
Ascend the steep mountainside until you reach a junction, then follow the signs for “Etoile du Berger”.
After negotiating a few steep hairpin bends, you will reach another junction. Continue towards Etoile du Berger, which you will leave on the right.
Approximately 1 km further on, you will reach a small car park where you can leave your vehicle.
Trail description
From the car, continue along the road, cross the bridge, and at the first hairpin bend leave the road to follow the track of the footpath.
The route alternates small clearings with stretches of larch forest, eventually reaching the baite of Larpit.
After passing the huts, ascend a steep slope on the right, which leads into a short gully requiring some care, before reaching the upper slopes. From here, the environment opens up completely, becoming wide and treeless.
Proceed along the centre of the valley, passing near the Alpe Giassit, then continue, keeping away from the slopes on the right, to a distinctive hut perched on a small rise.
The final section can, in certain conditions, be avalanche-prone. It is advisable to stay on the slope just to the left of the cross and traverse toward it as soon as possible.
From the cross, you can admire the beautiful bowl leading down to the village of Maletto in the municipality of Carema.
The route description is indicative only; follow the safest path according to the current snow conditions.
