Col del Loo
( 2.451 m)Brief description
A long valley, hidden from view from the valley floor, that takes you far from the everyday world.
The itinerary is divided into two completely distinct sections:
the first section winds through the forest along a steep mule track, which often has no snow.
the second section opens into a wide, largely flat valley that leads up to Col del Loo.
With these characteristics, this route is ideal for those who love wild, untouched environments, and less suited for those seeking scenic ski descents.
If you do not have excellent knowledge of winter mountain conditions, it is strongly recommended to be accompanied by an alpine guide.
The route may vary depending on snow conditions; therefore, the GPS track cannot be downloaded from the website and is not visible on the app.

Start point description
From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right towards Turin. At the second roundabout, turn left following the signs for Gressoney.
The road climbs for a few hundred metres before turning right into the Lys Valley, passing through the villages of Lillianes, Fontainemore, Issime, and Gaby.
After a few kilometres, cross the Lys stream, pass a hairpin turn, and continue for several kilometres until crossing the stream again.
A hundred metres later, turn right onto the road leading to Lommatto. After a very narrow section, turn right again to reach the Lommatto car park.
Trail description
From the car park, cross the area between the buildings on level ground until you reach the start of the mule track, which must be followed carefully until the bridge over the stream.
Cross the bridge and ascend the opposite slope through larches and sections of scree. Often this section has no snow and must be traversed carrying skis on the shoulder.
Continue along a tricky section until entering the valley. Here, the landscape opens into a long valley with extended flat sections.
After crossing the small bridge, continue along the valley floor, keeping to the left of the stream, then cross it just before Ober Lòo to reach the cluster of houses.
Keep to the right and, with slightly more gradient, reach the flat basin below Col Lazouney. Traverse it on level ground and, with a final gentle ascent, reach the broad saddle of Col del Loo.
