Start point description

From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right towards Turin. At the second roundabout, turn left following signs for Gressoney.
The road climbs for several hundred meters before turning right into the Lys Valley road, passing through the villages of Lillianes, Fontainemore, Issime, Gaby, and Gressoney-Saint-Jean, until reaching the main village of Gressoney-La-Trinité.
Without entering the village, turn right towards Staffal and follow the road to its end, where there are two large paid car parks.

Trail description

From the car park, follow the Lys stream upstream until you reach a dirt clearing on the left, where the road to Col Bettaforca begins (at the far end of the clearing, on the right, is the beautiful Madonna della Nevi chapel).
The road climbs through the larch forest; at one point, there is the option to cut a hairpin bend, leading to the huts of Tlreje.
Exiting the forest, you are rewarded with impressive views of the head of the Lys Valley and Monte Rosa.
Continue to the basin where the lift line ends (which can optionally be used to shorten the hike).
A short ten-minute detour allows a visit to the Sant’Anna chapel and the nearby artistic installations.
Return to the road and follow it to Rifugio Sitten, where a stop for refreshments is possible.
Continue along the road, ascending the broad valley to Col Bettaforca, which overlooks the Val d’Ayas.
Optionally, in a few minutes, you can reach the top station of the chairlift, where a restaurant is available when the lifts are operating, or stop midway at the Sitten refreshment point.
The descent follows the same route.
