Canale al Suc

( 900 m)
Hiking
Start from Lillianes
March - April - May - June - July - August - September - October

Brief description

A short, mostly flat walk suitable for a half-day excursion. The first part follows a rural road through a lovely forest, while the second part runs alongside the water channel of the Pont-Saint-Martin hydroelectric plant, crossing several walkways that allow you to pass over rocky walls.
The walkways are well-protected with railings, but if you are with children, they should be crossed with care, as they are suspended. The second part of the route coincides with the Alta Via n.1 and the Tor des Géants trails.
During colder months, it is best to undertake the walk in the afternoon, when the sun is shining.

Start point description

From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right towards Turin. At the second roundabout, turn left towards Gressoney.
After a few hundred metres, take the right turn onto the Valle del Lys road, which leads all the way to Lillianes. Just before the narrow section of the village, turn right onto the ascending road.
After two steep hairpin bends, continue straight, cross the stream, pass beneath the village of Chessun, and continue through the beautiful chestnut forest until reaching the houses of Suc. Proceed past one more hairpin bend, and on the left, near the charming chapel, there are several parking lots.

Trail description

Continue uphill for about a hundred metres along the main road until you reach, on the right, a slightly descending rural track. Follow it through the chestnut forest (on the left you can see the old water channel), passing a few scattered houses until you reach the village of Chavallé, where the rural road ends.
From here, return to the point where the car was parked.
Ascend slightly and join the Alta Via No. 1. The route continues on level ground until you reach the area with the footbridges. After crossing these and traversing some steep sections of the mountain slope, you will arrive at the long canal bridge, where the route ends.
The return journey follows the same path.
