Start point description
From the Pont-Saint-Martin motorway exit, turn right toward Torino. At the second roundabout, turn left toward Gressoney.
After a few hundred meters, turn right onto the road that follows the Lys Valley, passing through the villages of Lillianes, Fontainemore, Issime, Gaby, and Gressoney-Saint-Jean until reaching the center of Gressoney-La-Trinité.
Without entering the town, turn right toward Staffal and follow the road to its end, where there are two large paid car parks.
Trail description
From the arrival point of the lifts, follow the path uphill to reach the Adler's Nest refreshment point. Before reaching the Ponte Hotel, cross to the left and take the trail (marked 6A) leading toward the valley.
The trail continues along a contour path until it crosses the stream. Continue along the path to reach the small dam at the water intake. Leave on the left the path that climbs directly to Col della Salza, and traverse the large plateau before ascending to the Orestes Hütte refuge.
From the refuge, continue to the main trail leading to Col della Salza. Follow the main trail, leaving the path to Col della Salza on the left, and turn sharply right, ascending rocky little valleys until the point where the trail crosses to head toward the valley leading to Rifugio Mantova.
Here, reverse direction and follow a long, flat traverse to reach the wide Alta Luce ridge, where you will find the characteristic bell. The descent is along the same route.
